Free Quote Check
Is your plumbing quote fair?
Take a photo of your plumbing quote or invoice. We explain each line, compare the price with typical costs in Los Angeles and Orange County, and point out what to ask before you pay.
Free. Up to 3 pages. Lay the page flat in good light so the prices are readable.
Before you take the photo, cover or crop out your name, address, phone number, and any payment details. Photos are sent to our AI provider (OpenAI) to be read, and we don't store them or the results.

What Quote Check looks at
The price
The job is compared with typical prices for licensed plumbers in Los Angeles and Orange County, the same ranges as our cost guide.
Every line, in plain English
Trade words like P-trap, cleanout, T&P line, or PEX get a short, plain explanation.
License number
California requires licensed contractors to put their license number on contracts and bids. We check that it's there and link you to the state lookup.
Deposit
For most home improvement contracts, California limits the down payment to $1,000 or 10% of the price, whichever is less. We flag deposits above that.
Permits
Water heaters, gas lines, repiping, sewer replacement, and slab leak reroutes usually need a permit. We remind you to ask if it's included.
Warranty
We check whether the quote mentions a warranty, so you know to ask how long parts and labor are covered.
Example result
Sample quoteReplace a 50-gallon gas water heater
Quote: $3,085. Typical: $1,200 to $2,500.
- No contractor license number on the quote
- $1,500 deposit is over California's usual limit
- Ask whether the permit is included
- Warranty is in writing
Quote Check doesn't rate, review, or judge any plumbing company. It reads the document and compares numbers. It isn't legal advice. AI reads the photo; the price comparison and paperwork checks come from our price table and California rules, not from the AI.

Before you sign any plumbing quote
- 1Get the price in writing before any work starts.
- 2Look up the license on the state contractor board site. It should be active and include the C-36 plumbing classification.
- 3Keep the deposit small. For most home improvement contracts, California caps it at $1,000 or 10% of the price, whichever is less.
- 4Ask whether permits are included for water heaters, gas lines, repiping, and sewer work.
- 5Don't let payments get ahead of the work that's been done.
- 6For bigger jobs, get a second quote before you decide.
- 7Get the warranty in writing: what it covers and for how long.
Look up any contractor's license at the state contractor board (CSLB).
Questions about Quote Check
Is Quote Check free?
Yes. There's no charge, no account, and you don't need to give us your name or phone number.
Do you keep my photos?
No. Your phone resizes the photo first, which also removes location data. The photo is sent to our AI provider, OpenAI, to be read during the check. We don't store the photo or the results. We tell the AI to leave out your name, address, and phone number, and you can cover them before you take the photo.
Where do the typical prices come from?
They're the same ranges as our cost guide: typical prices for licensed plumbers in Los Angeles and Orange County. They're estimates, not quotes. Your actual price depends on what a plumber finds on site.
My quote is higher than typical. Is the plumber overcharging?
Not necessarily. After-hours work, hard-to-reach pipes, permits, code-required parts, or extra work can all raise a price. Ask what's included, and get a second quote if the job is big.
Does Quote Check rate or review plumbers?
No. It reads the document and compares numbers. It doesn't judge any company. To learn about a plumber, look up their license on the state contractor board site and read their reviews.
Does it work outside Los Angeles and Orange County?
It can read any plumbing quote, but our typical prices are for Los Angeles and Orange County only. Prices in other parts of California can be quite different, so get a second local quote there.
Can I check a PDF or an emailed quote?
Yes. Take a screenshot of it and upload the screenshot. You can add up to 3 pages.
Who runs Quote Check?
PlumberNearMe.ai, a referral service for Los Angeles and Orange County. We are not a plumbing company. We work with one licensed, insured partner plumber, and we say so whenever we offer a second opinion.
